Loughborough stay undefeated
RUGBY & EAST WARWICK 1ST XI 1 LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 1ST XI 2 A DEPLETED Loughborough Town travelled to Rugby in search of three more points and a continuation of their undefeated start to the season.
Loughborough started the game well, controlling the early tempo with Guy dominating from the back, setting the tempo, with the rest of the team striving to achieve the standards set by the powering full back.
For all of Loughborough’s possession, opportunities were elusive with Town not really able to fully open up the defence apart from a few half chances. This however changed when Fitton was found on the baseline inside the D who squared for Hartley who slid in at the back post to put the ball into an empty net.
Loughborough should have used this as a foundation on which to build, however, some very poor marking led to Rugby getting a few chances on the counter and nearly levelling the game.
Half time arrived and some words from coach Hunter succeeded in riling the team up and they went out in search for another goal. Nice play from Fewtril and Livingstone in the opposition half kept creating gaps but again, the opportunities were difficult to come by apart from a well saved attempt from Capel from a penalty corner routine.
With around 10 minutes to go, Holloway threw a dubious aerial which on any other day would have gone harmlessly off the pitch. However, in the high winds it held up and the whippet Nick Morris latched onto the end of it, squaring the ball for Fitton to score the easiest of tap ins.
Again, Loughborough rode their luck with Randall getting a needless Green card and being sinbinned, putting the rest of the team under unnecessary pressure.
Rugby broke through and scored a very scrappy goal. The last few minutes continued in this fashion with Rugby having one lost opportunity which was tamely hit at Hie who smothered and pushed away.
