Positives taken despite defeat
LOUGHBOROUGH Town welcomed Cannock to the water base this week, in what proved to be a fairly evenly matched game.
Coming off an important win last week against Harborne, Town were looking to build on this with a victory over Cannock.
The first half saw Cannock have the better scoring chances, but Town did have some of their own. Unfortunately, Towns forwards had a tough time in front of goal and couldn’t finish off a number of chances. Cannock struck first, with a slick penalty corner routine which saw Ottewell chesting home for the visitors making it 1-0.
The half time talk saw Guest and Lamb rally the squad with some inspirational words. These appeared to work, with Town dominating the second half. Town’s best chance came through Ratcliff, who showed some slick skills to dribble past five Cannock defenders but unfortunately couldn’t finish.
Town had a number of penalty corners, but couldn’t make them count, despite excellent stopping from Kenney-Herbert at the top of the D.
Cannock’s second goal came through confusion among Town’s ranks, leaving five free men in the Town’s D.
A deflected shot took the score to 2-0. The game stayed at 2-0 to Cannock to keep town rooted on three points.
The game saw a number of positives including seeing the debut of young, up and coming star Griffiths, who didn’t look out of place.
