Charnwood AC clinch gold, silver and bronze

-

CHARNWOOD AC’s young athletes braved blustery and showery conditions to compete against other Midland County athletes in a three-person cross country relay event in Wolverhampton on Saturday.

This time it was the turn of the U13 girls to achieve the club’s greatest success, achieving gold in spectacular fashion.

Rachel Newport, with a time of 13.01, got the club off to a tremendous start over the twisty 3km loop, coming in third position and setting up Gracie-Rose Walters (13.06) with a great medal chance. Charnwood newcomer Gracie, in only her second race for the club, ran strongly to move the club up to the silver-medal position. Lucy Morrison blasted around the final leg in 12.33 to move Charnwood AC into a winning position and pulled clear to beat Stoke AC by 14 seconds with Tipton Harriers in third. Lucy’s run earned her the second quickest run of the day. The B squad of Olivia Sykes, Jessica Farrar and Chloe Lilley performed well to finish in 12th position.

The Under 15 girls were also on the podium, winning a silver medal. The team of Gemma Newport (12.54) Mar Ruiz-Monserrat (13.44) and Lexie McLoughlin (12.08) all ran superbly against strong opposition to finish second behind host club, Wolverhampton and Bilston AC. Maya Stokes and Grace Perkins competed well as an incomplete team.

The U17 squad rounded off a successful day for Charnwood’s young female athletes finishing in the bronze medal position with their team of Lily Gregory, Lottie Davidson and Mia Atkinson.
