Scarecrow festival is a big hit

ASHMOUNT Special School in Loughborough opened its doors for its fifth annual scarecrow festival.

This year’s event proved to be the school’s most popular yet with hundreds of people – including pupils, staff, governors and their families - turning out to see pupils’ hard work on Sunday, October 8.

All 14 classes at Ashmount School had made their own scarecrow which were proudly displayed around the school hall and foyer. Other local schools, including Elizabeth Woodville Primary School in Groby and Thorpe Acre Infants School and St Botolphs Church of England Primary School in Loughborough, entered into the spirit by submitting their own scarecrow designs too.

Staff and pupils and their families donated hundreds of food items as part of Ashmount’s annual harvest festival celebrations, and £100 was collected from the sale of teas and coffees and a chocolate tombola stall at the event.

These will all be donated to Joseph’s Storehouse at The Carpenter’s Arms in Loughborough, a food parcels service which provides food, clothing and other essential items to a wide range of homeless and disadvantaged people in Loughborough.

This year’s three winning scarecrow designs were Ashmount’s Reception class’s ‘Elmer the Elephant’, and Class 11’s ‘Gru and the Minions’, and St Botolph Church of England Primary School’s ‘Paddington Bear-crow’ designs.
