TOTAL MOTION MIDLANDS FOOTBALL LEAGUE HAUGHMOND 1QUORN 1

QUORN made their first ever visit to Haughmond FC and were without the unavailable Russell Hoult and Simon Alcott was side-lined through injury. Ryan Thacker came back in for Hoult and Danny Chapman, returning from injury, came in to replace Alcott.

The home side settled the quicker but it was Quorn who had the first real opportunity to shoot on goal, Nick Goold’s 22 yard free kick drifted over the bar. The visitors were having most of the attacking play but without really testing home keeper Sam Jones. Thacker clawed away a snapshot from the edge of the box but it was at a comfortable height for the keeper.

Quorn were awarded another free kick just outside the box when Dom Brennan was upended again. Nathan Dale fired past the wall but Jones got across superbly to tip round the post low down. Soon after, Brennan hit a shot on the run from 25 yards that Jones again superbly kept out at full stretch, to deny the visitors. Quorn continued to threaten but we went to the break goal-less.

Quorn started the second half on the front foot but the visitors hit on the counter and a through ball caught the visitors out and Steve Hole poked the ball past Thacker to give Haughmond the lead in the 49th minute. Quorn responded and Brennan drew another fine save from Jones after Dale played him in. Quorn battled for the equaliser and were rewarded in the 66th minute, Lawrence Gorman fired home from 12 yards following a corner from the right.

Quorn continued to take the game to the home side but the Haughmond defence were restricting any real efforts on goal. The last five minutes saw both sides have great chances to win it, another corner by Goold was met by a superb header by James Hicks only for Jones to brilliantly palm away from the top corner.

Quorn nearly threw it away when sloppy play on the left gave the home side a great chance but when the cross came in, Hole struck the crossbar and Quorn scrambled the ball away. There was still time for chances at either end but the game ended level at one apiece.
