MCDONALD’S in Shelthorpe is set to have a huge refurbishment next year, costing just under £1m.
And it is thought, once all the work has been completed and new tech and services have been introduced, it will be “one of the most advanced McDonald’s in the UK”.
The news comes as Andy Rhodes, the franchisee at the Loughborough Market Place McDonald’s, acquired the Shelthorpe establishment in September.
Mr Rhodes has shared his future plans for the fast food outlet which include freshening up the exterior and revamping the interior.
He said: “What we are doing now is harmonizing the two [Market Place and Shelthorpe], making sure pay rates are the same and getting guaranteed hours contracts rolling through there.
“Police are very good up there and we’re looking to work with them and see what kind of issues there are and I’m to meet with residents and have a chat with them.
“I’ve committed to spending just under £1m on the store. We’ll be bringing in new technology, such as the tablets, mobile ordering and table service.
“We’ve launched mobile ordering [at Market Place] but Shelthorpe will take it to the next level. It’ll be all the latest technology and decor, it’s going to look great. It’ll be up there as one of the most advanced McDonald’s in the UK.
“It’s planned for next June and it’ll close down for about four weeks. I want people to walk in and say ‘wow, look at this’.”
Mr Rhodes told the Echo he also wants to introduce special events - such as signature Saturdays - to Shelthorpe and will look to make links with schools and charities in the area, like he has with the Market Place establishment.
He said: “With franchising, you commit for 20 years, so I’ve got another 18 years [with Market Place] and 20 with Shelthorpe. It’s a massive commitment to the local community, and I am committed to Loughborough.”
