Firefighters tackle major blaze at industrial unit
FIREFIGHTERS, who tackled a major blaze at an industrial unit in Shepshed last Tuesday (October 31), have been praised by members of the community.
Eight appliances from various stations attended the fire at Ashby Road Central following an emergency call at 8.56pm.
Special appliances were also sent to the scene including an aerial ladder platform, a command support vehicle and a water carrier.
The cause of the blaze had to be investigated and fire- fighters from Loughborough revisited the scene the following morning.
A spokesperson from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has since told the Echo the investigation found the cause was ‘accidental’.
They told the Echo the incident is now closed and the factory sustained 25 to 50 per cent damage by fire and 75 per cent smoke damage.
The spokesperson told the Echo they are unable to disclose the exact location of the fire.

They told of how crews from Shepshed, Loughborough, Birstall, Coalville, Ashby, Castle Donington and Eastern Station worked together to tackle the blaze. And other crews were also brought in to cover the surrounding area from stations in Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
A number of residents responded to the post and praised the crews.
