CHARNWOOD’S fallen war heroes will be remembered at two poignant events this year.

Armistice Day will be commemorated on Saturday, November 11, with a service held at the Carillon Tower. A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.

On Sunday, November 12, around 3,000 people will join the Remembrance Sunday service and parade in Loughborough. The parade, organised by the Royal British Legion, will start at 10.20am from Market Place and includes serving and ex-service personnel from more than 25 uniformed organisations.

A Remembrance service will be held at the Carillon Tower, Queen’s Park, at 10.45am and led by Reverend Wendy Dalrymple, Chaplain, Royal British Legion, Loughborough Branch and Reverend David Owen, Mayor’s Chaplain.

Coun Ranson, who will lead the proceedings for Charnwood Borough Council, said: “As Mayor it is an honour and a privilege to be able to play a role in the Remembrance events which recognise the brave men and women who have fought and died for our country in conflicts around the world.

“The Remembrance service and parade in Loughborough has grown to be one of the biggest in the East Midlands and is always a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and that their sacrifices should never be forgotten.

“There are still many conflicts taking place throughout the world involving the services of men and women from our nation, conflicts in which our men and women have lost their lives which in turn mean there are many families who have been affected in some way or another and your support remains very important and needed.

“Please be generous when buying your poppy to show your support for the Royal British Legion, it is true that without your generosity, they would be unable to continue their work in supporting service personnel and their families.”

Queen’s Park gates will be closed at 10.30am to the general public to enable the Civic Party and community wreath layers to process into the park. The public can access the park via the gates on Granby Street or Browns Lane.
