Those two nuclear weapons put an end to World War Two

-

AFTER reading the letters in The Echo last week I used a well known search engine on the internet to find out when the last nuclear war was and to my surprise there has never really been a nuclear war where countries fire Nukes at each other causing destruction.

In fact the last time a nuclear weapon was used was on August the 9th in 1945 and the only other time was August the 6th also in 1945. Both of these were against Japan and it bought to the end of World War Two. Yes they finished World War Two! Six years of fighting, people being killed, injured and separated from loved ones. These weapons stopped World War Two.

After that terrible time came to a end wars have come and gone only with the use conventional weapons that have been used to do the killing and injuring of many, but ironically no one has been killed by a nuclear weapon. I wonder why that is?

Now I would guess no one in their right mind would use a nuclear weapon because when it’s gone it’s gone. But because leaders know of the destruction they cause and the fact they would be hit back probably stops them from actually firing a WMD.

Now yes, we have all these organisations like ICAN for banning the bomb and they all must think they’re doing a well worth while job but they really think Mr Putin really cares about their marches and meetings? Do they really think Kim Jong Un would allow inspectors in his country to see if he has Nukes under his rug?

Do they really think if America and the UK rid themselves of all their arsenal Kim and Putin would do the same?

As is it today we have only had two nuclear weapons used in anger and yes, that’s two too many, but maybe we should be banning the traditional weapon that keeps killing people and keep the nuclear ones.

Or they maybe these people should face up to the fact that we need a defence of the same as those we might be at war with because to remove our nuclear weapons would show a weakness and make us vulnerable. We and other countries would be wide open for attack and while we have the defence of nuclear we are equal.
