Second league win for Boro

MIDLANDS 2 EAST NORTH. LOUGHBOROUGH 40 SOUTHALL 27

LOUGHBOROUGH RFC celebrated their second league victory and try bonus point win of the season, with a 40 -27 point victory over Southall at Derby Road Playing Fields in Midlands 2 East North.

Loughborough dominated from the off and it wasn’t long before they marked the scoresheet through a powerful driving maul from well outside the Southall twenty two. Controlling the ball well, the pack marched confidently over the whitewash with Mike Roberts scoring his debut try for the 1st XV.

This set the tone for a tremendous eighty minute display in which Loughborough scored six tries in total ; Hugh Evans grabbing a brace and one apiece for Steven Sands , Lorenzo Tinari, David Appleby and the aforementioned Roberts.

Whereas over the last 12 months, Loughborough has mainly dominated and won matches from upfront, against Southall RFC, the entire team overpowered their opponents in every facet of the game. Ole Ryan and Dan Pearson controlled possession impressively in attack with quick ball constantly being provided by Gary Bottomley, Toby Williams and Jamie Grice – the latter putting in another stellar man of the match performance.

The defensive line was led strongly by veteran, Aaron Brown, with Appleby, Kirkby, Tinari and Sands looking devastating in attack.

Southall put up a strong effort and this was by no means a walkover for Loughborough. However, they had no answers to a team that is rapidly developing into a very promising outfit once more.

Loughborough’s next outing is at home against Ashbourne RFC on Saturday (November 11), kick off 2.15pm.
