Comprehensive whitewash triumph for defending Div One champions Students A

-

DEFENDING champions Students A picked up a comprehensive victory over Unicorn Bitters in Division One of the Loughborough and District Table Tennis League.

Luke Greenfield and Simon Broersen were in commanding form as they dropped just four games between them all night as they swept to a 6-0 success.

It was a difficult night for Shan Gao and Jessica Birbeck as Bitterns slipped to a third defeat in as many starts.

Early indications are that it will be a tight battle at the top of Division Two where Charnwood Aggressors did their prospects no harm by whitewashing struggling Charnwood Blockers.

Chris Woodward and Tony Geanta swept through the singles whilst the nearest Rafa Cherry and Gary Baines came to any reward was when they took Woodward and Ron Forster to five games in the second doubles.

Helena Dicken was the player of the night for Draycott Diamonds but was unable to prevent Unicorn Curlews from consolidating their promising start with a 4-2 triumph. Malcolm Allsop and Xujin Bao both got the better of Lucy Vernon for the winners.

Hugglescote Hawks are the early pacemakers in Division Three, helped by a hard-fought win at Charnwood Drivers.

Gary Pitts emerged as the player of the night after completing his double with a five-game defeat of Paul Ducksbury. Aaron Wainwright won one for Hawks and helped Pitts to a vital doubles success as the visitors won 4-2.

Last season’s champions Charnwood Choppers settled their rollercoaster start with a convincing 6-0 thumping of Students E, with Ian Kennedy and Tony Cook in good form.

New boys Sawley Stars are still without a victory after three matches although they have picked up eight points from a couple of draws and a close defeat.

Division Four leaders Sawley Tempted are three points clear of nearest rivals Students G after both sides have won their opening three fixtures.
