Routine win for the Foxes

A Loughborough PROFESSIONAL Foxes which afternoon resulted for in a comfortable 5-0 victory over struggling Rotherham United Ladies.

Before the kick off it looked like it was going to be a long afternoon for the visitors, who have failed to gain a single point in eight Premier League games this season, and were immediately under the cosh as Laura Steele forced Rotherham’s goalkeeper into a fantastic full-stretched fingertip save inside the opening two minutes.

Skipper Shauna Chambers showed her determination inside the first 10 minutes by showing blistering pace down the left wing, beating two players in the process, only to be stopped by an excellent last ditch challenge from the recovering defender.

Moments later, Eva Rogers dispossessed a defender, but was denied by the goalkeeper’s outstretched leg.

Becky Matlock thought she had opened the scoring for Foxes only for her anticipated effort to be chalked off for being in an offside position.

However, Foxes didn’t have to wait long for their opener as Young pounced on Matlock’s shot which was parried into her path by the goalkeeper.

Siobhan Eastham nearly made it two three minutes later, but her effort was tipped onto the crossbar. Rotherham’s goalkeeper was busy and doing her upmost to keep the scoreline down.

Unfortunately for her, Foxes had their second just before the break. Chambers whipped the ball into the box and Rotherham’s centre half diverted the ball past her own keeper.

Chambers nearly made it three after the restart. The goalkeeper’s poor clearance fell to Chambers who was ambitious from 30 yards but the goalkeeper made amends by palming the ball away from goal and smothering the follow

Foxes made a double substitution moments later which paid dividends. Substitutes Charlotte Cooper and Laura Dexter linked up well which saw the latter rifling her chance across the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

Cooper also added her name to the scoresheet after glancing a header from a Steele corner into the net. Dexter nearly had a brace but the keeper was at it again by tipping her effort onto the crossbar.

Young put the cherry on the cake by notching her 12th league goal of the season following good footwork inside the area deep into stoppage time.

Foxes now turn their attention away from the WPL Midlands Division One as they travel to Redditch United next Sunday in the first round proper of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.
