Yet another warm October for us all
OCTOBER was another milder month than usual and this made it five warmer than average Octobers running.
Indeed since the year 2000 average temperatures for this month were 1.3c higher than the 1990s and of all the months of the year this one has recently warmed the most.
Afternoon temperatures were logged at 15.5c 1.5c above normal with night temperatures being recorded at 9.6c a very significant 2.5c above normal. This made the mean temperature of 12.6c 2c above the long term normal making October 2017 the 13th warmest in 350 years.
Winds blew in from a mild and moist south-west direction for the majority of the time and most days were milder than usual.
The warmest day was logged on the 14th at 20c with the coldest at 10c on the 30th.
Nights were also mainly mild with the warmest one a balmy 14.8c and even the coldest on the 30th at 1.4c meant we still avoided air frost for October once again.
Somewhat surprisingly was the low rainfall total with just 23mm recorded or only 35 per cent of the usual total.
Sunshine figures were also down in the cloudy humid conditions with just 94 hours being logged 15 per cent below the norm.
Some months have distinct patterns indifferent weeks but apart from the third week which did see some rain most of the time mainly cloudy and mild summed the weather up.
Only time will tell if recent quiet patterns of weather in this month will remain or we may see a return to cooler and wetter conditions next year!
