Four wins from four matches give Charnwood Aggressors an early edge

-

CHARNWOOD Aggressors have laid down an early-season marker in a bid to gain promotion into the First Division of the Loughborough and District Table Tennis League. Four wins from as many matches have given them an early edge – and that lead would have been greater but for a fine personal performance by Joe Hume, of Students C. He defeated both Ron Forster and Tony Geanta but was unable to prevent Students from suffering their first defeat of the season as Aggressors triumphed 4-2. The early leaders of the top flight are Draycott Donkeys although their latest six points was gift-wrapped as Unicorn Bitterns conceded the match. John Genovese was the stand out player as Unicorn Avocets continued their good start with a 5-1 success at Hugglescote Hares. Only Barry Taylor stood between the home side and a whitewash as Genovese and Peter Haluska took control. Clive Crouch did his level best to hold up Division Three leaders Hugglescote Hawks as he won two hard-fought singles for visitors Sawley Stars. But he was literally on his own as Hawks claimed the remaining four sets to win 4-2. Ian Kennedy was in excellent form as Charnwood Choppers continued to climb the table with a 4-2 success over Students D. Team mate Eric Baker won one and Kennedy remained unbeaten during the evening. Peter Crown is another player in good form as he won a double in a closely fought 3-3 drawn for Charnwood Drivers at Unicorn Dippers. Louise Watson and Linda Walshe have also made great starts as Sawley Tempted have built up an early lead at the top of Division Four. They both won their singles as Tempted saw off Students F.
