Extra 50 car parking spaces at town railway station

-

THE extended car park at Loughborough railway station was formally opened last Friday (November 10) by Nicky Morgan, MP for Loughborough, and Lawrence Bowman, commercial director at East Midlands Trains.

The extension is on land provided by Network Rail and joins on to the existing customer car park, offering 50 additional spaces for customers travelling with East Midlands Trains to London, Derby, Sheffield and many other destinations on the Midland Mainline and across the East Midlands.

The company says that further improvements for customers will also be introduced soon, including new upgraded ticket barriers which will be able to accept m-tickets.

Nicky Morgan MP said: “As a regular traveller to London myself I’m fully aware how difficult it can be to find a car parking space at Loughborough station during peak periods.

“If we want local residents to choose rail instead of jumping in the car for the whole journey, and we do, then catching the train has to be as stress free as possible.

“These new car parking spaces go a long way in making the passenger experience more pleasurable.

“I’m delighted to have worked with East Midlands Trains to secure these new parking spaces, it’s relatively small measures like this that play an unexpectedly big part in making Loughborough the great place to live that we know it is.”

Lawrence Bowman added: “I was delighted to welcome Nicky to the station and show her the extended car park here at Loughborough. We know our customers can find it difficult to park here sometimes and we hope the extra spaces will help.

“We will also shortly be replacing the ticket barriers with new, modern gates which can accept m-tickets, stored on a mobile phone.

“We are working hard to improve our service to customers right across the East Midlands and look forward to further improvements in the future.”

Rob McIntosh, route managing director at Network Rail, said: “These additional spaces will make catching the train easier and helps us meet the needs of the communities and economies our railway serves.

“We’ve worked closely with Nicky Morgan MP and East Midlands Trains on this project, which illustrates how we continue to work as one industry, providing the best possible service for passengers by working together.”
