Faiths united in prayer

-

MORE than 50 people from many different faiths gathered in Loughborough during One World Week for the annual pilgrimage to pray for peace in the world.

The pilgrimage visited several places of worship in the town. They meditated together in peace at Brahma Kumaris, joined friends at the King Street Mosque, shared with Druids under a tree, joined with Hindus at Geetha Bhawan and finally shared together at the Baptist Church.

Each faith shared their own desire for peace through being at peace within ourselves to working together for peace both locally and throughout the world.

One participant who took part on the pilgrimage said: “I have been on the pilgrimage for more than 20 years. It always comes as a delight and a surprise to go in the same evening to visit such different places of worship.

“Outwardly, the places are so different, the light at Brahma Kumaris, the undecorated space of the mosque, meeting under the trees with the druids, the brilliance of light and the gods at Geeta Bhawan to the lofty space of the Baptist church.

“But inwardly all of us have the same desire to live in peace together with our neighbours and with all peoples across the world.

“We may be hesitant to enter someone else’s place, fearing we may be affronted or whatever, but the welcome and hospitality is abundant. We are just people wanting to make the world more peaceful.”
