£5,000 lottery grant for Town of Sanctuary

-

LOUGHBOROUGH Town of Sanctuary says it is delighted to announce that it has received a grant of £5,000 from the Big Lottery’s Awards for All fund.

The money will be used primarily to pay for vouchers which can be redeemed at John Storer House for food and drink.

A small amount will also be used to purchase hats, gloves and scarves for distribution at the Home Office reporting centre in Loughborough.

A spokesperson for the Town of Sanctuary said: “Asylum seekers come to the Centre from Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. They have to manage on a Home Office allowance of £5.28 per day and often they arrive at the centre having had nothing to eat.

“We are glad to be able to help these people who are amongst the most vulnerable in our society”.

Frank Fay, the Town of Sanctu- ary’s treasurer added: “Our finances depend on donations from individuals and organisations, many of which are local churches.

“Earlier in the year we were running short of funds so this grant from the Big Lottery has eased our financial situation and we are extremely grateful to the Lottery for this grant.

“We will, of course, continue to fund raise because the demand for our service continues to grow”.

Loughborough Town of Sanctuary is affiliated to the national City of Sanctuary organisation which offers advice and support to refugees and asylum seekers from around the world.
