Loughborough denied victory in final seconds

-

KHALSA 1ST XI 4 LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN 1ST XI 4 LOUGHBOROUGH rolled up to Khalsa Hockey Club with revenge in mind. Two tough defeats to Khalsa last season left Loughborough little to cheer about, however the still unbeaten Loughborough knew that this year was a different story.

With Khalsa’s defence stood still Callum Holloway stepped up to bury one into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to Loughborough and Khalsa were fortunate to grab an equaliser after some slack marking from Loughborough.

The second half started off with another bang, this time through forward, Luca Hargreaves with a fine instinctive deflection off a Leo Guy cross.

Soon afterwards and after considerable pressure, Loughborough secured a penalty corner which was converted by that man again, Holloway. Another moment of madness at the back left some free players in the circle to which Khalsa capitalised bringing Loughborough’s lead back to a single goal.

After a Khalsa player used his body to stop Mike White’s shot finding the net, a penalty stroke was award- ed, and then slotted home by Holloway for his hat-trick and a no-brainer MOM.

With five minutes to go and a 4-2 lead, Loughborough felt they had done enough. However, after some stubborn Khalsa pressure and a lack of Loughborough composure, two Khalsa goals leaked in, with the final one landing in the final play of the game from a short corner.

Points shared in this one then, but a healthy looking table for Loughborough Town who actually gained on the top of the table. With just three points off the top, Loughborough have a good platform to jump from.
