Decisive win for Unicorn Avocets in top of the table clash against Draycott Donkeys

-

THE CLASH between the top two sides in Division One of the Loughborough Table Tennis League resulted in a decisive victory for Unicorn Avocets.

They were given a run for their money by a youthful Draycott Donkeys before running out 5-1 winners.

Best set of the night was the first between Peter Haluska and Connor Green, who led by two games to one before eventually going down 11-9 in each of the final two games.

John Genovese then consolidated the advantage with a more straight forward three-game success over Erin Green and the first doubles went much the same way.

Connor Green did pull a set back against Genovese but that was as good as it got for Donkeys as Avocets convincingly won the last two sets.

The other top-flight clash between Draycott and Unicorn sides produced the opposite result as Bitterns remained at the bottom of the table.

Viv Rayson and Gareth Hickling generally had the better of Bo Zhang and Guan Mei Zhang until the latter got belated reward for a hard evening’s work by claiming the second doubles in five games.

Division Two leaders Charnwood Aggressors didn’t have things all their own way in their home match against Draycott Dynamos.

Ron Forster and Tony Geanta both won a singles but the player of the match was Taylor Pearson who won a double for Dynamos to help them to a 3-3 draw.

Tom Davey was in fine form for Students C as they did well to hold hosts Unicorn Curlews to a 3-3 draw. He defeated both Malcolm Allsop and Xujin Bao after being promoted from the D side.

Davey’s busy week also included a maximum for Students D as they edged out Goons 4-2 in a Third Division fixture.

Charnwood Drivers won by a similar scoreline at Sawley Stars despite a John Brindley double.

Louise Watson took her 100 per cent start to the season to 12 wins out of 12 as runaway Division Four leaders Sawley Tempted swamped Charnwood Eagles 5-1.
