Semi final place for the Foxes
LEICESTERSHIRE & RUTLAND COUNTY CUP
QUARTER FINAL LEICESTER CITY WD 1 LOUGHBOROUGH
FOXES 3 LOUGHBOROUGH Foxes booked a place in the semi finals of the County Cup after a 3-1 victory over Leicester City Women Development of the East Midlands Regional Football League.
Foxes went into the match as favourites and showed their class with two quick fire goals to edge them into a comfortable early lead. Victoria Brackenbury powered home a Laura Steele cross and deja vu struck again minutes later but this time with a Leicester defender diverting the ball past her own goalkeeper.
Charlotte Cooper nearly added a third but her lofted effort bounced the wrong side of the post. Leicester could have collapsed, but dug deep and a screamer from 30 yards saw them half the deficit and get back in the game.
Leicester were close to equalising as Leicester’s skipper saw her effort rebound back from the top of the crossbar but Loughborough ended the half ahead.
Foxes dominated possession in the second half and had half a dozen chances to add a third, which eventually came after good link up play down the right hand side. Eva Rogers whipped the ball into Cooper, who rolled the ball back for Chambers to lash the ball into the net, via the post.
Leicester had one decent chance to add another goal to their tally, but the striker cut across the ball and hit the side netting. Foxes could have had a fourth, but Cooper was denied by the outstretched leg of Leicester’s shot stopper as well as Wilson and Young respectively having chances cleared from the goal line.
Foxes progress to the semi finals of the County Cup which could see them play high tiered Leicester City Women. They have no cup or league fixture scheduled for Sunday but will put themselves to the test by taking on Women’s Super League 2 outfit London Bees in a friendly.
