Saying goodbye to Maurice

-

STAFF have bid a fond farewell to long-serving McDonald’s employee Maurice Deacon, who started his career with the company 17 years ago at the Epinal Way/Park Road business as a customer care assistant.

During his time with the company Maurice has raised more than £30,000 for Rainbows and Ronald McDonald’s House, who provide accommodation for families when their young ones are sick in hospital away from home.

Maurice said: “When I first started in McDonald’s all those years ago I was 56 and seemed a lot older than most of the staff that worked there then. I mentioned this to Andy Day the business manager who was conducting my interview and he told me I wasn’t too old and that I was the right man for the job.

“Since then I have loved every minute of it. I will never forget just how supportive the team have been over the years. It’s more than fast food company, it’s a family and they have really looked after me, especially since my health slowly got worse and also, having the security of private healthcare offered through McDonald’s has really helped ”.

Jamilah Grant, business manager told the Echo: “Maurice has really high standards of customer service and as such has become a very familiar face in the town.

“We held a farewell gathering for him for customers and staff all showing support and wished him luck on future endeavours.

“We will miss him an awful lot.”
