Make sure your stickers are on the brown bins

RESIDENTS who have signed up to the Charnwood Borough Council garden waste service are being reminded to make sure they’ve put their stickers on their bins.

The council says that only bins with stickers – proof of a current subscription - will be emptied and last week (up to November 24) the council had refused to empty just over 100 bins which had not displayed stickers.

If you have received your sticker, please make sure it is on your brown garden waste bin. If you have not received your sticker, please contact the council on 01509 634563.

Coun Leigh Harper-Davies, lead member for major contracts, said: “We have sent around 34,000 stickers to customers and the vast majority have put them on their bins and they are now being emptied.

“We’d like to remind people who may not have had a chance to put their stickers on bins to do so as soon as possible, otherwise they may not be emptied. If you haven’t received one, please get in touch with us.”

The council adds that stickers need to be placed on the brown garden waste bins underneath the handle and have been introduced to make sure only paid-for subscriptions are emptied and that the service is operating as efficiently as possible.

If a sticker is not displayed then the bin will not be emptied and crews will only return on the next scheduled collection date.

The council said that a hanger explaining the reason for non-collection, which can also be for having the wrong items in the bin, will be left for customers.

Residents can sign up for the service at any time. It costs £28 for a 12-month subscription (when paid by direct debit), which the council says is cheaper than the national average.
