Walking football team set for ‘Movember’ match
LOUGHBOROUGH Dynamo’s walking football team is to round off a month-long charity effort for the Movember Foundation by staging a charity football match tomorrow (Thursday, November 30).
Walking football is a variant of football that is aimed at keeping people aged over 50 involved with football if, due to a lack of mobility or for other reasons, they are not able to play the traditional game, while The Movember Foundation is a charity which aims to raise awareness of men’s health, addressing topics like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.
And several members of the Loughborough Dynamo walking football group have put their razors to one side for the month to grow their moustaches for the ‘Movember’ cause!
Event organiser Jerry King, one of the club’s 18-strong core walking football players said: “At Loughborough Dynamo, we have grown a group of enthusiastic walking footballers of mixed ages and abilities. From a standing start at the beginning of the month many outragous moustaches have been born.
“Our efforts will climax on Thursday (November 30), with a charity football match against opposition from Hamilton called LPF 88 (Leicester People Football).
“The hope is we manage to get as many people along to enjoy the game and also put a few pounds towards the charity. It may also encourage, men of a certain age to become involved in exercise and walking football.”
Gates will open at 6pm for a 7pm kick off on Thursday, November 30, at Loughborough Dynamo’s Nanpantan Sports Ground, Watermead Lane, Loughborough, with spectators asked to provide a minimum donation of £3 towards the Movember Foundation.
