FAYRE. St. Gregory’s Church in Sileby held their traditional Christmas Fayre on Saturday, November 18.

As well as the Raffle (£50 first prize, two magnificent hampers and a host of other prizes), there was a great variety of stalls: books and plants; bottles; christmas gifts; cakes; children’s bran tub; tombola; toys; fancy goods; chocolate tombola; children’s colouring and scalextric. Refreshments were served throughout the morning. The magnificent sum of £1,585 was raised, much of which goes to pay for the insurance of the church and the social centre.

Our grateful thanks to all those parishioners who worked so hard to make it a success and to parishioners and villagers from Sileby and beyond who supported the event. We are grateful to Father Christmas who took time out from his busy schedule to talk to the young (and not so young) to discuss their Christmas wishes.

SILEBY METHODIST CHURCH. On Monday, November 20, the Ladies Circle met at 2pm and one of their members, Gina, demonstrated Sugar Craft. She made some Christmas Roses and Jasmine to decorate Christmas Cakes and it was fascinating to watch her. Thank you so much Gina for this festive reminder.

The next meeting will be on Monday, December 4, at 2.30pm and will be a Faith Tea.

Thursday, 23rd, saw Cafe@ Chapel open from 9.3011.30am – many thanks to all who come along to support this effort. The same again on Saturday, 25th, when Ann was in charge.

Have you seen our Christmas window? Some clever volunteers have really made a great effort to get us in the Christmas mood, already for the big switch-on next Friday.

Sunday, 26th, saw Margaret Williams travelling from Loughborough to bring us the Word of God. As we did not have a pianist she chose lovely hymns, which we all knew, to compliment her sermon which was about ‘Christ the King’.

Her message considered Christ as the Good Shepherd who tends his flock and separates the sheep from the goats, a familiar tale but one worth emphasising.

On Monday, 4th December, at 1.45pm, it is the funeral of Mrs Rose Mead, our oldest member who has passed away. Rose was a very dear lady who almost reached her 101st birthday and so we hope you can come along to give her a ‘good send-off’.

The church will be open from 12.45pm with the Stewards in attendance.
