Photo contest
MEMBERS of Sileby Photographic Society met on Monday, November 20, when the judging of the 4th and final round of the quarterly competition took place.
The visiting judge for this round was Peter Yeo, FRPS, DPAGB, APAGB, who carefully deliberated over the prints and digital images entered for the competition before awarding his marks for each. Peter provided constructive comments when judging the exhibits and with many excellent entries put before him, he found it difficult to establish an outright winner in each category.
Joint winners of the monochrome print section, each securing the maximum 20 points, were ‘ Well Weathered’ by Alun Williams and ‘Early Morning, Venice’ by Mandy Sherrington.
Joint winners of the colour print section were ‘Black Turnstone’ by Pete Smith, ‘Hopeful’ by Mandy Sherrington, and ‘Hang On In There Baby’ by Alun Williams, each being awarded the maximum 20 points.
The digital image section proved another challenge for Peter to judge with many excellent entries to consider before making his decision.
‘Silver Skimmer Dragonfly’ by Pete Smith and ‘Autumnal Pirouette’ by Mark Flatman each achieved top marks and were thus declared joint winners.
The marks accrued during the 4th round will be added to the results of the three previous rounds contested earlier in the year, and the overall winners will be presented with their trophies at the Annual Dinner which will be held in January.
Chris Bates thanked Peter for his constructive comments throughout, and for a difficult job well done.
The criteria for both prints and digital images allowed for participants to enter material under any subject and, with an extensive range across the spectrum available to them, judging was not always that straightforward and Peter certainly had to work hard for his money!
A new competition, ‘Monochrome Portraits of People’, has been slotted into the programme this year and this will take place at the next meeting which will be held on Monday, December 4. The visiting judge on this occasion will be Trina Fitzalan-Howard.
Visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8. pm and are held at Sileby Community Centre.
