Students continue rich vein of form with victory

-

LOUGHBOROUGH Uni FC maintained their good run of form with a well earned win over Heanor Town and have now lost just one of their past 10 games.

Heanor usually provide a stern test and that was again the case last Saturday at Holywell Park in front of a season’s best gate of 163.

The Scholars got off to a fast start taking the lead in the seventh minute when Paul Braithwaite netted what for him is a rare goal. This apart their wasn’t a lot to choose between the sides as play went from end to end but few chances were being created. Heanor did have an opportunity only the effort went wide of Jake King’s goal.

Uni’s leading scorer Joe Boachie saw a shot tipped onto the post by White in the Heanor goal but he wasn’t denied for long as in the twenty third minute he added to his impressive goal scoring tally when he was set up by Eric Duah and from the edge of the penalty area Boachie fired home to give the Students a two goal advantage.

Soon afterwards Heanor had another chance when Davis allowed Sleigh to get past him but again the effort went wide of the posts.

Shortly before halftime Dan Hanson headed over so the Uni had to settle for a two goal halftime advantage which was just reward for another fine 45 minutes.

Early in the second half Matty Crookes did a good impersonation of a Fox in the Box and put the Scholars further ahead but any thoughts of a comfortable rest of the afternoon soon disappeared when visiting captain Roulstone reduced the deficit.

Heanor immediately turned up the pressure valves and the Scholars spent most of the half on the back foot but still managed to limit the visitor’s chances and eventually ran out deserved winners.

This weekend see the Students at home again with Haughmond making their first visit to Holywell Park.
