SHEPSHED boxer Joe Ducker is celebrating this week after lifting the British Super Featherweight challenge belt.

Weighing in at 9st 3lb 6oz, Ducker stopped Leo D’Erlanger in the seventh round of their bout with a technical knock out on Saturday night in Bilborough, Nottingham, to claim the victory.

Ducker said the bout unfolded exactly as his team thought it would

“We thought I was too strong for him and I knew he couldn’t hurt me. It was an absolute war, we were both covered in blood but I won with a 7th round TKO after I cut his left eye underneath with a big right hand blow.

“He was starting to really tire and his hands was dropping so if his corner hadn’t stopped the fight I think I was only a few punches away from ending it anyway. The ref had me two rounds up at that point anyway.”

Now the 32-year-old gas engineer, who trains in Derby at the base of father-and-son coaching team Mike and Jay Shinfield, is taking a break until after Christmas to let himself heal properly after the bout.

Involvement in the BCB’s Midlands Boxing Super Series which was called off at the last minute in October and is due to rescheduled, is still on the cards, but Ducker is aiming higher.

“Me and my team are going to look for bigger things next year - I think I’m ready for bigger opportunities and I’d love a shot at an English title.”
