Leicester and Charnwood Sunday League

IN THE Hardings Transport Cup, Sileby Athletic secured a semi-final place with a 10-0 demolition of Leicester Bharat.

A hat trick for Joe Wardle and braces from Simon Harper and Jacob McEnnery were overshadowed when veteran Shaun Wilks came off the bench to score.

Long Whatton join them after a 4-2 win away to local rivals F.C. Hathern. A hat trick from Mark Hetherington and one for Dan Tuck saw the away side progress at the expense of their neighboughs.

Also through are Birstall Stamford Res after a 6-3 win away at Anstey Sports Res, Darren Wheeler’s brace and a goal from Dean Wilmot weren’t enough for the home side.

In the Ryder Transport Cup, four first half goals were enough to see Greenhill Sparrows into the semi finals against Bhudda, two from Alan Deacow plus singles from Dale Burton and Kai Thompson allowed them to relax in the second half, a second half goal from Ryan Walker was just a consolation for Bhudda.

In the Chairmans Cup, an extraordinary game saw New Parks Rangers overcome Ball Park Rangers by the comfortable score of 6-1, comfortable until you take into account that the 90 minute score was 0-0. A great show from the midtable club kept the Division Three leaders at bay and at times downright worried, but in the end the underdogs ran out of steam but gained a lot of respect from their opposition.

Racing Alleno had no such worries though, and goals from Craig Forbes, Dan Gallagher, Greg North, Ash Wright and substitute Mitchel Colesaw them through 5-1 at the expense of Greenfield Rangers.

In Premier Division action, Finchys continue to dominate with a 6-2 win over Quorn Royals with hat tricks for both Marshall Keenan and Aaron Preston. Birstall Stamford though are waking up to the challenge and can’t be dismissed after a 5-0 victory over Iannis.

Whilst Anstey Sports are also on the up with a 3-0 win over this season’s dark horses F.C. Poplar. In Division One, Burton got off to a flying start in this local derby at Towles Field with an early goal from close range by Matt Harris. Shepshed competed well and were rewarded with an equaliser midway through the first period. Burton dominated possession after the interval but failed to make it count. Shepshed made good use of the counter attack, capitalising on Burton’s high line, defensive errors and persistent use of inaccurate passes with the long ball.

The visitors were clinical in their second half finishing and this produced a succession of goals scored on the break. Burton managed to get a goal back toward the end when Matt Harris claimed his second with a nice finish. However, virtually from the restart Shepshed scored their fifth goal to seal victory in a much closer game that the 5-2 scoreline would suggest.

A second half hat trick for River Hardy and goals from Andrew Hobson and Richard Burt the Shepshed goalscorers. Two goals from Ryan Charles and one each from Jacob Jane, Alexander Austick and Lewis Barrett saw Newboys take advantage of their rivals cup successes to go top of Division One after a 5-1 win over Spinney Rovers, with Shane Hulme scoring Spinney’s consolation.

Division Two saw AFC Sporting Charnwood spurn the chance to go top after only managing a point away at Athletic Sportsman, whilst Winchester Phoenix claim maximum points at home to close rivals Birstall Stamford A.
