TWO men - including one from Shepshed - have been convicted of manslaughter after a 47-year-old was found dead in his flat in March last year.

Christopher Crane, 46, and Christopher Pendery, 39, have been found guilty after a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

They both admitted they inflicted violence on Carl Pask, but denied they were involved in his death.

Carl was found in his flat, in Kimberley Road, Evington, on March 10, 2016, following a report from his family that he was missing.

The court heard that following the missing person report, officers visited his flat as part of their enquiries and found him dead.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died as a result of a head injury caused by an assault and an investigation was launched.

Crane, of Queen Street, Shepshed, and Pendery, of Woodland Drive, Braunstone, were arrested shortly after. The three had been involved in a disagreement, which resulted in Carl sustaining his injury.

During the course of the investigation it was found that, in the months prior to his death, Carl had voiced concerns about Crane, who had moved in to his flat without permission. Carl had also said he was scared of Crane, who had made threats to kill him.

A 999 call was made to the ambulance service in the early hours of February 23 and voices could be heard in the background – believed to be Crane. However no location was given to the call handler and no one attended the address.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Smalley led the investigation. He said: “This has been a lengthy investigation, and at times a challenging one, involving many witnesses and officers alike.

“I hope the result today brings some peace to his family, and that they can now start to move on their lives. While the result won’t bring Carl back, know- ing that the two people involved are serving long prison sentences, will hopefully, help them come to terms with what’s happened.”

Leicestershire Police told the Echo that although both Crane and Pendery were set to be sentenced on Friday, December 1, at Leicester Crown Court, that sentencing did not go ahead and that it had been adjourned to a later date, however this date had not yet been decided.
