Co-op cash grants for groups and good causes

A HOST OF groups across Loughborou­gh received an early Christmas present this week, when the Co-op revealed a £70,000 funding boost.

The money will be shared by 31 organisati­ons and is the latest round of pay outs from the local community fund, and brings the amount the Co-op has invested in good causes in Loughborou­gh since the scheme launched in September 2016 to £138,000.

Rufus Olins, director of community and campaigns at the Co-op, said: “It’s great to be delivering an early Christmas present to those communitie­s and individual­s that need it most. Along with our members, we’re proud to be making a difference to hundreds, if not thousands, of local lives.

“However, this is not just about giving money, it is about developing relationsh­ips with good causes in local communitie­s, and over the past year we have been touched by hundreds of ways in which people have made their own communitie­s better places to be.”

The groups to receive cash in the latest grants include: The East Leake Pre-school Playgroup: £5,282, Loughborou­gh Acrobatic Gymnastics Club £4,902.65, Hall Orchard PTFA £2,060.96, Kegworth Com- munity Library & Book Shop £1,986.31, Bishop Beveridge Club £1,985.45, Falcon Support Services (FSS) £1,939.25, Shepshed Cricket Club £1,817.15, Kegworth Heritage Centre £1,840.03, Castle Donington Volunteer Centre £1,143.63, Friends of St Edward’s CE Primary £1.090.17, Orchard Community Primary School Parents Associatio­n £1,076.

By joining the Co-op’s membership scheme shoppers can contribute to the money raised for the good causes, and they can choose which of these causes they wish to support by logging on to the website at www.coop.co.uk/membership
