Victorian musical Wassail! on this week
THE New Quorndon Shakespeare Company is to take to the stage this winter with a Victorian musical Christmas celebration.
From December 7-9, the group will be at Quorn Village Hall with Wassail! and tickets are available now.
Residents are invited to join the Perker Tupmans, a well-to-do family in the 1800s, who are looking forward to celebrating Christmas Eve in their comfortable home with presents and plenty.
The arrival of their long-lost uncle, however, upsets their plans and the evening takes a surprising turn.
Taking its name from the Anglo-Saxon ‘Waes Hael’, meaning good health, this old-fashioned Victorian tale was penned by S. Lynn Scott, a member of the NQSC.
S. Lynn Scott featured in the Echo earlier this year after she published her first novel ‘Elizabeth, William…and Me’.
Wassail! includes material from classic writers as well as a humorous ‘mummers’ play, Christmas carols, and songs.
The musical is suitable for all ages and is said to be ‘a very Christmassy way to start the seasonal festivities’. The shows will start at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced at £8, are available online from www. nqsc.org.uk and can be purchased from Quorn Formal Hire in the village.
The company can also be contacted by email nqsc@ ymail.co.uk
A group spokesperson told the Echo tickets may be available on the door although it is advisable to book in advance as the group’s annual Christmas show is a popular event.
