Perfect record intact for Gent
LOUGHBOROUGH MMA fighter James Gent is celebrating after extending his unbeaten record to 4-0 in Scotland.
The 20-year-old student weighed in at 126.5lbs for his fight with Gordon Mountain as part of a 15 fight bill at Dalkeith, Edinburgh and won with a first round submission.
He said: “The fight was pretty hard. He came out with a lot of double jab overhand rights, fake overhands followed by shooting for a takedown. I was getting the better of most exchanges, but Gordon definitely had his moments.
“He rocked me hard with an overhand right because I thought it was a feint for a takedown so I showed it no respect and ended up on the canvas. He followed me to the floor and regretted his decision as I got him into an Ezekiel choke near the end of the round.”
After the victory the ringside doctor gave Gent a medical suspension for 36 days for suspected concussion which will keep the fighter, who is a student of UFC fighter Jimmy Wallhead, out of the ring until the New Year.
Gent added: “As for the future I have my eyes on a 32 man tournament in Birmingham at Bantamweight (135lbs/62kg).
“If I can keep my weight gain going I should be the right size for the weight class whilst maintaining a length advantage over the guys there.
“I just need to be able to attend a qualifying event nd beat whoever they match me against to secure entry.”
