Festive fun at WI

LOUGHBOROU­GH Ladies WI enjoyed a Christmas party at their December meeting, with quizzes and delicious food created by the ladies.

Small Christmas trees were also decorated and donated to a local community café as table decoration­s The annual Christmas Dinner was enjoyed at the Radmoor Restaurant.

In its first year, the successes of the skittles team continue. They will play in the quarter finals, on January 11 at the Barrow-Upon-Soar Conservati­ve Club.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 4, with the first of a varied and interestin­g programme of meetings for 2018. Peter Wood will give a talk and demonstrat­ion about willow weaving. There will also be an opportunit­y for ladies to have a go themselves. Other items on the programme for later in the year include a talk about the life of Coco Chanel, growing vegetables in a container and flower arranging. Instead of a raffle there will be a Bring & Buy stall.

At the January meeting, Ladies are reminded that their subscripti­ons are due. Please bring £41 in a marked envelope, including your name.

There are a number of Clubs run by the Group, including a Book Club, Coffee Club, Cinema Club, Craft Club and Theatre Group. The Book Club continues to meet on a regular basis, reading a wide range of books. The next meeting will be at the later time of 7.30pm, on 18th January, to discuss “Cartes Postales” by Victoria Hislop. The Group meets at the Beacon pub. All members of the WI are welcome, even if you have never been before, come along and give it a try.

The Cinema Club has not met for a while, but intends to re-start during the winter. Any member with suggestion­s of forthcomin­g films to see should bring them to the next meeting or give their ideas to a member of the Committee.

The Coffee Club will meet at 10.30am, on January 8 at The Priory, Nanpantan.

The Craft Club continues to meet each month. The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 3, at the Community Room in Tesco’s on Park Road.

The Theatre Group will be visiting Loughborou­gh Town Hall to see The Full Monty on April 3, 2018. Ladies please bring your ticket money (£17/£16), in a seperate envelope to the January meeting.

The Supper Club is arranging a further visit to the Radmoor Restaurant on Thursday, January 25, to celebrate Burn’s Night. Anyone wishing to join us should bring £22.00 in a marked envelope, including their name, to the January meeting.

Apologies that seperate envelopes are required to pay for each event, it will assist the treasure. Thank you.

The monthly meetings are held at 7.30pm, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Park Road, Loughborou­gh.
