Uni FC lose fifth in a row

RUGBY TOWN 3 LOUGHBOROUGH Uni FC’s season has seemingly gone a bit askew after a promising run before the Yuletide vacations.

The season opened with six defeats in their first seven games but then the Uni went on a run which saw them losing just one game in 12.

However the last five games have produced five defeats, the latest against Rugby Town who were making their first visit to the campus.

The first half was relatively even with the Scholars having plenty of possession but creating little and the visiting ‘keeper wasn’t called into serious action and the best chance of the half fell to the visitors when Kolodynski fired straight at Jake King in the Uni goal when he probably should have done better.

The face of the game changed completely in the second half when Rugby scored three times in the opening 20 minutes. The first coming just three minutes into the half Wiggins-Thomas firing home.

The Students suffered another blow shortly afterwards when the influential Alex Read had to leave the field being replaced by Paul Braithwaite. Their problems increased when Kolodynski added a second for the visitors.

The Students tried to get back into the game but the closest they came was when a header following a corner was cleared off the line. Only the next strike again came from the visitors and this time a well worked move saw Belcher netting to give the Students a mountain to climb.

To their credit the Uni still did their best to make a fight of it and were finally rewarded when Braithwaite netted with 20 minutes left on the clock. Had an effort from Dinsmore gone in soon afterwards it might have been a different story but his effort rattled against the woodwork before being cleared.

After this Rugby controlled matters and gradually closed the game out without too many problems.

This weekend the Students travel to Coventry Sphinx and will be hoping they can get back to the form prior to the festive campus closure.
