MP’s stand is welcomed but can she answer these questions?

-

THERE have been a lot of letters recently about our MP’s voting on Brexit.

Her choice to take a principled stand is to be welcomed, although it also reveals just how little loyalty she commands in her own local party!

The New Year is a good time, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, to ask Nicky Morgan some questions and to invite her to respond on these pages.

Is she ashamed that the governments she has supported (and even been part of) since 2010 have pursued policies that have pushed hundreds of thousands of children into poverty through no fault of their own?

Is she able to understand that, although simplification and reform of benefits may be a good aim, the shambolic and utterly incompetent roll-out of Universal Credit is driving many working and non-working families into poverty and despair? Will her new-found willingness to take a “principled stand” extend to this too?

Is she at all embarrassed that when she sought support for a leadership bid in the last contest it was reported that she could only muster three pledges, and that she then chose to support the deceitful and odious Michael Gove? Does her support for such a dishonest candidate not show really poor judgement?

I do hope that our MP will find a few minutes to let us have her answers. It would be much better to hear from her directly, rather than from others (I might say her usual cronies) who might seek to answer on her behalf!

Looking forward to 2018, I call on Nicky as our MP to fearlessly stand up for those most in need, for the marginalised and excluded, and to not just serve the interests of the rich and powerful. I realise these are not the principles of the Conservative Party, but hope that common humanity will lead her down this path.
