Comedy festival is returning to town

IT WILL be laughter time across the town next month as the Leicester Comedy Festival comes to Loughborou­gh.

The festival is produced by charity Big Difference Company and will take place from February 7-25. The programme features more than 830 shows in 69 venues across Leicesters­hire.

First up is Hotel D’comedie at Holywell House in Loughborou­gh on Thursday, February 8, from 7.30pm.

Take a tour of Holywell Guest House and bump in to some of its more unusual visitors. This intimate show will introduce you to four comedians who are guaranteed to give you a night to remember.

Alex Hylton will be performing I Came, I Saw, I Complained at The Needle and Pin, The Rushes, Loughborou­gh, on Thursday, February 8, at 9pm.

Alex Hylton has been performing for four years. He’s done gigs for hundreds of people in packed theatres and a gig to just two people at the Red Lion, in Dudley. He’s travelled all over the UK, but was he impressed? Find out in this ambitious, award-nominated show.

Mark Steel will assure us everything will be okay despite Brexit, the state of UK Government and Donald Trump in power.

In The Vic Comedy Club will take place in the Victoria Room at Loughborou­gh Town Hall on Saturday, February 10, at 7.30pm.

It brings nationally establishe­d and hot up-and-coming comedy prospects to Loughborou­gh for a special mixed-bill evening as part of Leicester Comedy Festival. Featuring Matt Richardson, Lou Sanders and Glenn Moore, this is a night not to be missed.

Platform One Comedy comes to The Midland Railway in Syston on Saturday, February 10, and Saturday, February 24, at 8.30pm.

Liam Pickford will be your host and alongside him, Stephen Carlin and ‘Joke of The Fringe 2015’ Winner Darren Walsh, will be entertaini­ng the audience.

The Happy Monday Comedy Club will be held on Monday, February 12, from 7.30pm at Cognito, Loughborou­gh Students’ Union, Ashby Road, Loughborou­gh.

This one-hour show features three stand-ups handpicked by the festival organisers. Kicking the night off will be one-liner comic Chris Norton Walker. Keep an eye on the website to see what other top festival acts will be joining him. Free tickets (plus booking fee) available for Loughborou­gh University students - student ID must be presented at venue with the ticket.

Comedy On The Wolds comes to Waltham on the Wolds Village Hall on Saturday, February 17, at 7pm.

Musical comedy sisters and Now Magazine Audience Choice Award 2017 winners (Toronto Sketchfest), Flo & Joan, bring you the best of their Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, while Sarah Keyworth shares a few stories that are guaranteed to make you laugh. More acts to be announced.

Jonathan Pie: Work In Progress heads to Loughborou­gh Town Hall on Saturday, February 17, at 7.30pm.

Jonathan Pie is returning to the stage in 2018 with a brand new live show following a sell-out tour ending at The London Palladium. Join him for this work in progress show as he warms up, blows up and possibly even messes up!

Anchor Inn Roars With Laughter comes to the Hathern pub on Friday, February 23, at 7.30pm.

Join the Anchor Inn for a very special evening of stand-up comedy. This year the pub plays host to oneliner comic Chris Norton Walker. Keep an eye on the festival website to see what other top festival acts will be joining him. Ticket includes a free pint of Tiger.
