Away success for Boro Ladies
LOUGHBOROUGH Town Ladies returned to league action with a steely performance in Sheffield to win away on the road.
Loughborough Ladies made the trip up the M1 to Sheffield Ladies looking to close the gap on the teams above them and a hat trick of tries in the first half an hour from winger Emma Dootson looked to set Loughborough up for a bonus point win but Sheffield stepped up their game and could have got on the score sheet themselves and were twice denied a route back into the game by some stout defence by Loughborough who ended the half 17-0 up.
The second half saw a more even contest with both teams playing some delightful rugby but neither being able to capitalise on possession with Sheffield’s fly half using the boot to good effect trying to put Loughborough on the back foot but being met with some fine counter attacking and running rugby by the visitors.
Sheffield, to the delight of their supporters, deservedly got themselves on the scoreboard after some great play saw them work their way up to the Loughborough try line and cross over for a converted try.
The game seesawed back and forth as a resurgent Sheffield looked to add to their score but with time running out Borough had the final say, winning a scrum five meters out the pack pushed Sheffield back over their try line for captain Danni Allen to dot down to close out the game and a 22-7 win.
Next up for the Ladies is a home fixture this Sunday against West Bridgford.
