Foxes hit six of the best to remain top

WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE MIDLANDS DIVISION ONE LOUGHBOROUGH FOXES 6 LONG EATON UNITED LADIES 0 LOUGHBOROUGH Foxes continued their unbeaten run in the Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Long Eaton United Ladies.

Foxes came out of the blocks quickly, and recorded their first two chances inside five minutes with Shauna Chambers and Tiana Hicks trying their luck from the edge of the box with both efforts sailing over the bar.

Foxes’ early pressure paid off when Charlotte Cooper began the rout. Cooper swiveled inside the box and slotted her effort into the bottom right hand corner. Moments later Victoria Brackenbury doubled the host’s advantage when she towered above everyone inside the area and nodded home Chambers’ inviting corner.

Long Eaton recorded their first effort of the match with an audacious attempt from 35 yards, but the effort was high and never testing Amy Burle in between the sticks. Foxes added a third before the break after Cooper notched her 12th goal of the campaign, pouncing on an inviting cross from Pip Cassidy.

Foxes started the second half how they ended the first. Eva Rogers displaced the defender high up the pitch and pulled it back to Lindsey Tugby who made it four. Tugby added a fifth on the hour mark after following up a block from the goalkeeer as Cooper searched for her hat-trick.

Hicks got in on the action and added a much deserved sixth as she cooly slotted the ball into the bottom corner - a finish from beyond her years. Cooper raced through on a few occasions but was unable to convert her third and take away the match ball.

Long Eaton rarely threatened in the second half with their best chance coming from a lapse in concentration from Foxes, but the chance ended in a comfortable save for Burle.

Foxes have now recorded 10 wins on the bounce in the Women’s Premier League and kept an impressive eight clean sheets in the process. The three points keeps Foxes a point ahead of title chasers The New Saints with a game in hand.

The Foxes turn their attention away from the League next Sunday as they travel to current Women’s Premier League Northern Division outfit Leicester City Women in the County Cup semi finals.
