Students edged out by Sphinx

COVENTRY SPHINX 2 LOUGHBOROUGH

UNI FC 1 LOUGHBOROUGH University FC’s losing run continued down the M69 in Coventry when they lost by the odd goal in three against high riding Coventry Sphinx, however despite the result it was a far better showing from the Students and they can take some heart from this game.

After a bright opening the Scholars went a goal behind after conceding possession allowing the home side to break away and take the lead. Worse was to follow when just five minutes later Coventry went two ahead and it seemed as if the Uni were in for a bad afternoon.

To their immense credit the Loughborough side tried to find a way back into the game forcing a series of corners and creating chances but they couldn’t turn their positive response into goals.

The second half got underway with the Students making a change with debutant Jordan Slack coming on for Lewis and soon afterwards Cameron Gordon replaced Bardsley-Rowe and Moran came on for Mutamba.

The Scholars suddenly found themselves back in the game when a defender put the ball into his own net following a free kick and from then onwards it was all Loughborough.

Duah forced a great save out of the home keeper and another chance went begging from close range and the home side must have breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle as the Students lost again.
