Quorn beat Shepshed in derby

TOTAL MOTION MIDLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE

QUORN 2 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 0 QUORN were without the injured Daniel Chapman and Nathan Jackson for the visit of local rivals Shepshed Dynamo.

Ryan Evans had recovered from the injury picked up at Highgate last week and took a place on the bench alongside John Melligan who had missed the last two games.

Nathan Dale and skipper Ryan Seal both returned to the starting line-up and new signing Daniel Brenan came in for his debut after completing his transfer from Coventry United in midweek.

The visitors took the early initiative with leading scorer Shay Brennan hitting the side netting and Liam Reads snapshot from outside the box just wide.

Quorn responded with some neat build up play that led to Ryan Seal having a well struck effort turned behind. Seal took the corner and debutant Daniel Brennan rose highest to power home a header from 12 yards.

Sean Williams then fired wide and Darious Darkin forced Denham Hinds to save as Quorn got on top.

Shepshed went close when Courey Grantham headed the ball to Shay Brennan but the striker failed to find the target, likewise at the other end Dominic Brennan also fired wide.

Quorn doubled their lead midway through the half, Williams forced an error from a defender and Seal fired superbly past Hinds from 15 yards.

Soon after, the home side were close to a third, Nathan Dale striking the outside of the post after the midfielder was brought down just outside the box.

Quorn continued to dominate and Hinds saved superbly, low down, to his right from Williams after good work by Joseph Haines. Darkin and Seal then combined to set up Brennan but again Hinds made the save.

As the half drew to a close, Haines struck a fine effort on the run that just sailed past the far post with Hinds scrambling to get there.

Shepshed started the second half with more determination and Quorn were forced to defend, Karl Whymark brought a fine save from Haydn Whitcombe.

At the other end Seal crossed for George Taylor to head wide but the whistle went for an infringement anyway. Shepshed should have reduced the arrears following a corner, with the ball only half cleared, it was delivered back into the far post but the unmarked Grantham, scuffed his effort wide.

Shepshed were coming more into the game and Whymark’s free-kick was brilliantly turned over by Whitcombe, at the other end, substitute George Bowerman chipped a fine effort that Hinds just got his fingers to and Joe Pheasant prevented the ball from crossing the line by heading over the bar.

Quorn finished the game stronger and Melligan crossed well from the right but Bowerman failed to connect and the chance was gone.

Credit to the visitors who made a fight of it in the second period but Quorn’s first half display was enough to secure all three points on the day.
