Mallon stars for Warriors

EAST MIDLANDS REGIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION 1 CHARNWOOD RUTLAND 41 NORTHANTS JMS 36 CHARNWOOD Rutland took on Northants JM’s on Sunday and with numerous players missing, they pulled up 14-year-old Evie Mallon to make her debut in the senior regional league along seven of the original squad.

The Warriors started shakily with JMs starting well and gaining a five goal lead.

However, the Warriors began to settle and the players began to gel with Mallon showing her shooting accuracy to level the scores at 11-11 after the first quarter.

In the second half Warriors came back out on to court with better form, with their defence making interceptions for them to take the lead at half time 23-18.

Heading into the second half the centre court linked successfully between the attack and defence and young shooter Mallon remained consistent with the Warriors finishing on top winning 41-30.

• There was also success for Charnwood Rutland Warriors 2nd team when they clinched their third win of 2018 beating Leapoole 48-45

Leapoole had a narrow 10-8 advantage after the first quarter but by half time the Warriors had a three point lead of their own.

The final quarter saw the Warriors lead by two and their defence working overtime to turn over the ball their shooters held their nerve and took their chances and as the final whistle blew, Warriors who took the win 48-45.
