West Leake

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEAL. On Wednesday 3rd of January the ladies of West Leake WI joined together to enjoy a lunch time meeting and a three course meal.. Three of their members demonstrated a course of the meal and then the ladies sampled it.

The first course was Chinese Yuk Sung, which was demonstrated very ably by Pauline Hargraves, a new member of the Institute. This was very unusual and delicious.

Continuing the exotic theme, the main course was a mince dish from South Africa called Bobotie and was cooked with the late addition of a savoury egg custard. This was also very tasty.

The desert course of Griestorte au Citron was demonstrated by Lesley Allan. This dish used lots of eggs, almonds and semolina. The first two courses had been very healthy, low in fat, carbohydrates, salt etc. but the desert broke all the rules with lashings of cream and lemon curd. The meal was ended with coffee, chocolates and mince pies made by Rita Alsop.

Iris Bonner gave the vote of thanks. Julia Watts, won the £1.00 in the bucket draw and the results of the competition of an old kitchen item were items brought by, 1st Beryl Barnet, 2nd Kay Savage and 3rd. Anne Jones.

The members received the recipes for the meal and settled down to a brief business meeting. The speaker on 7th February at 7.15 is Jonathan Smith and his subject is,” A Day in the Life of a Metal Detectorist”. This is an open meeting and everyone is welcome.
