A LOUGHBOROUGH based charity has launched an ambitious campaign to raise £100,000 in just two months.

TwentyTwenty which is based at the Schofield Centre, in Greenclose Lane, aims to help youngsters develop skills to help them secure jobs and build a successful future through a range of integrated projects at its award winning Lifeskills centre.

Interim CEO Sarah Ford said: “The young people who come to us are living without hope, in the most deprived neighbourhoods in the East Midlands, many from families who are now long term unemployed. We exist to help these young people who have had a difficult start in life to become independent, healthy, aspirational citizens with the skills and wherewithal to hold down secure and progressive jobs.

“To this end we have launched our Brighter Futures campaign. The £100,000 isn’t for a new project, instead it will contribute towards our current programmes across Loughborough, Leicester/Leicestershire and Derby/Derbyshire. Our unique package of education and employment support, empowers young people to achieve success against the odds.

“In our ‘can do’ environment, young people receive extensive coaching via mentoring/counselling, build self-confidence through success and positive reinforcement, learn critical work-ready skills and attitudes, achieve accredited qualifications in Maths, English and ICT, access extensive real world work exposures (interactions with businesses), complete meaningful work experience and positively progress to further education/employment.”

Donations towards the Brighter Futures Campaign will help fund the educational courses and wraparound support - so far the appeal has raised £51,500 and it runs until March 31.

Sarah added: “This isn’t bad for its first few weeks but there are just six weeks left so we are hoping to push this wider and broader.

“If you, or know anyone who would like to, can make a donation to enable us to continue our life changing work, we’d be very grateful.”

The campaign has got the backing of Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan who urged people to support the charity.

“I have been delighted to support TwentyTwenty over the last eight years, and have never stop being impressed by the exceptional work that they do to change the lives of local young people who have had a difficult start in life.

“TwentyTwenty is unique in the positive way it offers hope to many parents and young people, providing an outlet for young people’s talents and a means of converting their energy into successful outcomes. They have an innovative approach to education and training that enables each young person to gain the qualifications and experience they need to succeed in life, where other education establishments have failed.

“I would encourage you to please support them urgently, and as generously as you can to allow them to continue this valuable work.”
