CHARNWOOD Rutland 2nd team maintained their push for a play-off place with a convincing 49-32 win over current league leaders Grasshoppers in East Midlands Regional Division Two on Sunday. In the first quarter the Warriors came out with a strong start, with the team working as a unit, to produce a definite goal difference of five goals and lead 12-7 going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter the confident start continued, with the defence working hard to create ten turnovers, the mid court working well to keep possession and the confidence of the shooters sinking both long and short range goals.
This combination across all the court saw Warriors break Grasshoppers rhythm and limit them to just three goals in the second court and stretch their lead to 26-10.
In the third quarter, both teams bought on fresh legs, which benefitted both equally. Grasshoppers came out strongly scoring six quick goals on the bounce. Howev- er, this this did not worry the Warriors as the team fought back with strong defence and accurate shooting netting them a further 11 goals, in the time Grasshoppers gained only two giving them a 39-19 lead going into the final 15 minutes.
Grasshoppers came out strong and determined yet again in the last quarter fighting successfully against the Warriors ultimately winning the quarter (12-10).
However, the Warriors hard work in the first three quarters paid off as they recorded a confident 49-32 win.
