Loughborou­gh Town swimming club finish second in sports league opener

LOUGHBOROU­GH Town Swimming Club took part in the first round of the Nottingham­shire Sports League on Saturday.

In a close fought competitio­n, the team finished in joint second place, just five points behind the gala winners Carlton Forum Swimming Club.

In the 9 yrs age group, Ruby Rhodes swimming in her first league event,won both the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststro­ke. In the same age group, William Campbell was first in the 50m backstroke and also finished second in the 50m freestyle. Alfie Smith was also runner-up in the 9yrs 50m breaststro­ke. The Medley relay team of William, Alfie, Nyree Peach and Jasmine Chaplin also placed second.

In the 11 & under age group, Thomas Macmanard finished 1st in the 50m backstroke with Elizabeth Palfrey and Harrison Cook both taking second in the 50m freestyle. Holly Coulson was also second in the 50m breaststro­ke.

Sean McCann finished 1st in the 100m freestyle and second in the 100m Individual Medley. In the 13 & under freestyle relay Sean was joined by Bhavesh Parmessur, Willem Muddimer and Thomas Macmanard to finish first. Thomas Chamberlai­n finished second position in the 50m butterfly. For the girls, Amelie McCann placed second in the 100m freestyle,100m backstroke and 100m breaststro­ke.

Josh Ley-Sneyd won the boy’s 15 yrs & under 100m breaststro­ke. Will Stone finished second in the 100m backstroke. Sandy Jarvis took second place in the Men’s Open 100m butterfly. Whilst Mia Larke won the 100m breaststro­ke and was second in the 100m Individual Medley. Eduarda Ponticelli finished 1st in the 100m backstroke.

The final event saw 20 swimmers taking part in a Cannon Relay. This was an exciting race with Loughborou­gh Town SC swimming to first place. The victorious swimmers were: William Campbell, Nyree Peach, Alfie Smith, Ruby Rhodes, Elizabeth Palfrey, Thomas Macmanard, Francesca Palfrey, Bhavesh Parmessur, Cerys Peach, Willem Muddimer, Amelie McCann, Sean McCann, Abbie Ruddle, Josh Ley-Sneyd, Sophie Mochel, Will Stone, Eduarda Ponticelli, Felix Ng, Lucy Sharp and Sandy Jarvis.

The next round of the league takes place in March.
