Could you live in a house narrower than a train carriage? That’s the question on the lips of anyone viewing this extraordinary house for sale, which measures just 7ft 7in wide.
It’s known as a ‘gap house’ because the property was built in a passageway in between two shops. But, despite its tiny width, the three-storey property offers two reception rooms, a kitchen-diner, four bedrooms including a master with an en-suite, a family bathroom and a 48ft garden.
Known officially as The Slim House, the property has a steep sloping roof that swoops down from the front to the garden at the back. And its design is so unusual that TV presenter George Clarke featured it on his Channel 4 programme Amazing Spaces.
The property is in the Clapham area of SW London and was originally developed by a young firsttime buyer couple who bought it for £430,000 before it was then sold to an advertising executive in 2014, who has now put it on the market for £1 million.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the narrowest in the world is a terraced house on the Scottish island of Great Cumbrae, which measures just 37inches wide at the front.
