The Luffs return to action after weather enforced six week break and see unbeaten run ended

LEICESTERSHIRE SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION ONE LOUGHBOROUGH FC 2 ASFORDBY 4

THE Luffs run of seven victories came to an end on Saturday as they were back in action after a six week layoff due to weather conditions but they will look back on this one with disappointment allowing a two goal lead to disappear.

The Loughborough side began as if they had never been away hitting the underside of the bar in the opening minute of the game but it bounced out instead of in and the score remained goalless. The Luffs built up the pressure as Asfordby struggled to get to grips with the home sides pacey forwards and it was no surprise when they took the lead.

This was the first chance The Luffs new striker Oscar Partner had had to kick a ball in anger and he crowned his debut with the opening goal. Asfordby were on the ropes as Loughborough pushed for more goals and they were soon rewarded with a second goal as Partner turned provider for Dan Poulter to hit the bottom corner giving keeper Lewis Spencer no chance.

With a two goal lead Loughborough were comfortable in control but keeper Spencer kept his team in contention with a series of good saves and on the stroke of half time Asfordby won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and Junior Gaskin pounced on the loose ball make it 2-1 and the visitors were back in the game.

Straight from the kick off for the second half Asfordby levelled the scores as Stan Logan headed in the loose ball from a corner and The Luffs were no longer in complete control. Having been hit with a double whammy Loughborough took some time to regain their offensive but Asfordby had something to fight for and they were not prepared to give an inch.

Perhaps the effects of the long layoff but Loughborough lost control of the game in the last 20 minutes and Asfordby took advantage - Logan made it 2-3 as The Luffs committed to attack just a little too much and as the home side pushed even harder for an equaliser, Junior Gaskin helped himself to a second goal and it was all done and dusted.
