PROPOSALS FOR LAND ON M1 SIDE OF SNELL’S NOOK

WILSON Bowden Developments is working on an outline application for 90 acres of employment land, off the M1 side of Snell’s Nook Lane and Ashby Road, opposite the entrance to the planned Garendon Park housing development.

The site will also be next to Loughborough University’s Science and Enterprise Park, which would provide more than 944,000 sq ft of employment space.

Wilson Bowden says that the development would be focused towards advanced manufacturing companies, to complement the university’s park.

A spokesperson for the company said: “Wilson Bowden Developments have brought forward the scheme at this time as a project to increase the capacity of Junction 23 of the M1 at Loughborough and the A512 Ashby Road is set to get underway during 2019.

“The Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park is one of four enterprise zone sites in Leicestershire alongside Mira Technology Park, Charnwood Campus and Leicester Waterside.”

David Ward, planning director at Wilson Bowden Developments, said: “The science park has been a long-term strategy for the borough council and the university.

“The drive for us to launch this process was the Government releasing funds for the major road improvements as well as the approval of more than 3,200 homes nearby.

“This scheme will help secure ongoing and future public sector investment to the local area.”

The development borders Longcliffe Golf Club and, in the long term, could see the closure of part of the present Snell’s Nook Lane, with a new link road through the development from Ashby Road.

A consultation is set to be launched in the coming months where more details are expected to be released.
