SILEBY Photographic Society held its usual Monday evening meeting on February 12 when members and visitors were able to sit back and relax to enjoy a pre-recorded audio visual presentation which had been produced by the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation.

This consisted of some of the best images entered by members of the Federation and which had been included in its recent 63rd Annual Exhibition.

Together with a brief descriptive commentary, a superb collection of digital images was projected which covered a vast range of subjects in both monochrome and colour, and included landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, portraits, transport, flora and fauna, architecture, sport, natural history and wildlife.

Sileby Photographic Society was well represented and several members had their work included in this prestigious event. These were Malcolm Heaven, Alun Williams, Kevin Blood and Gianpiero Ferrari and once again proved that Sileby can boast some very fine photographers indeed when it comes to competing with the best.

Gianpiero, an international medal winner, attained a highly commended award for his image ‘Great Green Bush Cricket, and achieved a Selector’s Personal Choice award for ‘Avalanche Breakers’. The best nature image of the Exhibition was also awarded to Gianpiero and he received the PAGB Gold Medal for ‘Busy Goldfinch’ and, if to prove that he really is no mean photographer, he also won the top print award of the Exhibition with ‘Mountain Hare in Habitat’. An excellent achievement.

The NEMPF Exhibition overall highlighted stunning photographic talent available within its membership evidencing superb artistic flair, particularly when employing creative skills to achieve quite brilliant end results.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 26, when the first of the Society’s Quarterly Competitions will take place. The judge on the occasion will be Malcolm Cook, EFIAP.As usual, visitors and prospective new members are always welcome to attend the meetings which commence at 7.45pm for 8pm and are held at the Sileby Community Centre.
