Charity collection

-

THE February meeting of the Loughborough Ladies WI saw the final collection for the International Charity supported by the WI - The Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW).

The charity is aimed at helping women to support their families by improving nutrition and education. A talk with a difference, was given by Douglas Clinton. He gave an interesting talk about medieval archaeology in areas of Leicestershire.

The March meeting will be held on Thursday, March 1. In preparation for the new growing season there will be a talk about growing vegetables in containers. No excuse for not eating your ‘five a day’.

There are a number of clubs run by the group, including a Book Club, Coffee Club, Cinema Club, Craft Club, Supper Club and Theatre Group.

The Book Club continues to meet on a regular basis, reading a wide range of books. The next meeting will be at 7.30pm, on Thursday, 8th March 2018, to discuss “The Essex Serpent” by Sarah Perry.

The group meets at the Beacon Pub. All members of the WI are welcome, even if you have never been before, come along and give it a try.

Members of the Cinema Club met this month and enjoyed ‘ The Darkest Hour’. The film balanced Winston Churchill’s public triumphs with more vulnerable private moments of self-doubt.

It has been suggested that the next film to see could be ‘ The Shape of Water’. Any member with other suggestions of forthcoming films to see should bring them to the next meeting or give their ideas to a member of the Committee.

Details of the next Coffee Club will be given at the March meeting.

The Craft Club continues to meet each month. The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March7, at the Community Room in Tesco’s on Park Road.

The Supper Club enjoyed a Burn’s Night meal at the Radmoor Restaurant on Thursday, January 25.

Due to February being a short month, the committee meeting will be held after publication of this article. Details from that meeting and future plans will be given at the main March meeting.

The monthly meetings are held at 7.30pm, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Park Road, Loughborough.
